Service · Social media and one calendar
Where does a guest from social media book, and how do we stop the same room from being sold twice?
On Instagram and Facebook, a guest interested in your hotel completes the booking on your page, not inside Meta. The booking does not happen inside Meta; it ends on your page. For this reason we direct the booking link on your profile to your booking page. All your sales channels are fed from the same availability calendar. We work with four measures so the same room is not sold twice; the payment method is bank transfer.
- What we do
We direct the booking link on your Instagram profile and Facebook page to your booking page. We feed connected channels — Booking.com, Google and domestic online travel agencies — from one availability calendar.
- What changes at the hotel
A guest who comes from social media completes the booking on your page. A room sold on one channel is removed from the calendar; conditional inventory, a 15-minute hold, an overnight re-read and a 48-hour duplicate record check work against the same room being sold twice.
- Possible benefit
The risk of selling the same room to two guests can fall. No channel commission accrues on the booking that comes this way; the time that would have gone into updating availability channel by channel stays with the front desk.

How does booking work on Instagram and Facebook?
Instagram has no native booking button for stays; the booking does not happen inside Meta, it ends on your page. For this reason the guest's path goes through a link: we direct the booking link on your Instagram profile and Facebook page to your booking page.
The guest selects the date and the room on your page and completes the booking there. Your booking page is the direct booking engine connected to your site; it reads availability and price from the one calendar.
The path of a guest from social media
These are the steps when a guest arrives at your profile. Meta holds only the link; the booking starts and ends on your page.
- 1
Profile link
The guest taps the booking link on your Instagram profile or Facebook page.
- 2
Your booking page
Your page asks for the date and room; it reads availability from the one calendar.
- 3
We hold the room
While the guest completes the booking, we hold the room for 15 minutes. If the time expires, the hold releases.
- 4
Bank transfer
The payment method is bank transfer. Meta does not take the payment.
- 5
Removed from the calendar
The booking is removed from the one calendar; we relay the availability to the other channels.
One calendar: every channel is fed from the same stock
Your room count, your closed dates and your sales sit in one availability calendar. Booking.com, Google (free booking links) and domestic online travel agencies connect to this calendar; the link is open for Expedia as well. Your own booking page also reads from the same calendar.
When a booking comes in from one channel, it is removed from the calendar and relayed to the other channels; any change you make in the calendar also goes to the channels. This way a room sold on one channel is closed on the others. The relay is not instantaneous; we use an overnight re-read and checks to catch any gap that may arise from the delay between channels.
Four measures so the same room is not sold twice
Conditional inventory
The booking is removed from the calendar only if a sellable room is available for every night of the stay. If a single night has no room left, no night is removed and the booking is not accepted.
15-minute hold
While the guest completes the booking, we hold the room for 15 minutes. If the time expires, the hold releases.
Overnight re-read
Every night we re-read the availability on the channels and compare it to the calendar. If a channel shows a difference, we see it.
48-hour duplicate record check
If the same booking request comes again — for example when the connection drops — we do not open a second record; we return the first outcome. We keep this check running for 48 hours.
When do the measures kick in?
The four measures do not run at the same time; they work at different moments of the booking. In addition to these, we check channel health every hour.

The study covers hotels in Europe; the share for your hotel can differ. The hotel's own channels include the phone and email as well.
What do we measure, and where is the limit?
The booking engine records the campaign tag of the incoming visit. If the link carries a tag, we see which link the booking came from. We check the health of the links on the channels every hour; this check runs separately from the overnight re-read.
The measures reduce the risk of the same room being sold twice; they do not bring it to zero. There is no booking inside Meta; the guest goes to your page. We write items we cannot measure as 'not measured' in the monthly report.

Frequently asked questions
- Does the guest complete the booking on Instagram?
- No. Instagram has no native booking button for stays, and there is no booking inside Meta. We direct the booking link on your profile to your page; the guest completes the booking there.
- Which channels connect to the one calendar?
- Booking.com, Google and domestic online travel agencies connect; the link is open for Expedia. Your own booking page also reads from the same calendar. Commission and the channel contract sit between the hotel and the channel.
- Can the same room be sold twice?
- Conditional inventory, a 15-minute hold, an overnight re-read and a 48-hour duplicate record check reduce the risk. Because the relay to the channels is not instantaneous, we do not treat the risk as zero; that is why the overnight re-read and the checks keep running.
- How do we receive payment?
- The payment method is bank transfer. Meta does not take the payment.
- Can we see which connection the booking came from?
- If the link carries a campaign tag, the booking engine records the tag and we see which link the booking came from.
